Why a U-type line
An aluminium profile is a long, slender part; carrying, hanging and coating it differs from a standard line. On a U-type overhead line the profile enters in one direction and leaves at the same area, so loading and unloading are concentrated at a single point. This layout reduces floor usage and operator movement in plants coating long parts. The line is built for profiles between 3 and 7 metres and the dimension is customised — tell us your longest profile and the line is sized around it.
Colour change is capacity
Order variety is high in aluminium profile production, so colour changes are frequent. On our line a colour change takes under 20 minutes. The meaning is simple: in a plant changing colour five times a day, the difference between 20 and 45 minutes is two hours of production per day. The booth can be specified as filter or cyclone type; cyclone systems are preferred with frequent colour changes because cleaning and powder evacuation take less time.
Pretreatment: chrome or chrome-free
Pretreatment can be built with chrome or chrome-free chemistry. Two things decide: the chemical regulations of your export markets and the corrosion resistance required. Chrome-free systems are steadily becoming standard in plants serving the European market. This is not a setting that can be changed later; it is a design decision affecting the chemical cycle and tank layout of the line, and it belongs in the project phase.
Phasing the automation
The line can be built semi-automatic or fully automatic. Starting semi-automatic and adding automation later is a common way to split the initial investment — but it has to be stated in the project phase, because the layout and electrical infrastructure are then left suitable for the automation to come. The oven is of the vertical pass curing type. The product carries a 2-year warranty.
Two problems specific to profile coating
The first is sagging: a long profile bends under its own weight on the hanger, and if it touches a surface inside the oven it leaves a mark. Hanger layout and internal oven width are designed with this in mind. The second is colour change frequency — order variety is high in profiles, so the line changes colour several times a day; this makes booth selection (filter or cyclone) more decisive in profile coating than in other industries. Both belong in the project phase.
